国大学生会主席发给全校师生对晓鸥情况的更新(英)
(2009-04-29)
20 April 2009, Monday
Dear NUSSU community and NUS staff,
Thank you for your generous donation in support for our fellow student, Ms Zhang Xiaoou. Xiaoou was diagnosed with Acute Lymphatic Leukemia (ALL) in early March. After hearing about her plight, many individuals, student groups, NUS offices, departments, and organisations rallied together to raise funds for Xiaoou’s medical treatment. A campus-wide fund-raising drive had been ongoing since early March, and as at 13 April 2009, a total of $169,679.22 was raised under NUSSU (NUSSU Fund).
The donation drive has officially come to an end. The purpose of this letter is to give an update to the NUS community on Xiaoou’s progress and at the same time, provide an account of how the donated funds have been expended.
Xiaoou has completed her first session of chemotherapy treatment at the National University Hospital (NUH). Her family decided that she should continue with her treatment in China. Xiaoou has arrived safely in Beijing on 8 April 2009 and she will continue with the remaining chemotherapy sessions at a local hospital there. There are also plans for her to undergo a bone marrow transplant in China. Xiaoou has been granted leave of absence by the University and she would resume her studies when her medical condition permits.
To date, the NUSSU Fund has been used for payment to the Health Science Authority (Bone Marrow Donor Program) to conduct tests for bone marrow matching confirmation of potential donors. Payment will also been made to NUH for the first session of her chemotherapy treatment.
The rest of the NUSSU Fund will be used for Xiaoou’s medical treatment in China. The NUSSU Fund will be administered by two faculty members from the Faculty of Science, a representative each from the NUS Office of Student Affairs and NUSSU. We would like to assure all that the funds will be properly accounted for and used solely for Xiaoou’s medical treatment.
On behalf of Xiaoou and her family, we would like to thank all of you for your support. Please join me in wishing Xiaoou a speedy recovery.
